Join us as we celebrate our successes and address common challenges:
Data Detectives: An interactive challenge to solve mysteries in measurement
(10:30 AM - 12:00 PM)
Join 3 organizations who are struggling to address a specific, common, and critical challenge in global health monitoring and evaluation. Instead of a traditional panel discussion, participants will serve as the experts, working to solve these challenges through collaborative discussion and debate. Following a brief presentation by our 3 speakers, participants will break into small discussions and outline different strategies, tools, and techniques which could be employed to address the challenge. Coming back together at the end of the session, attendees will have a chance to review and comment on the proposed solutions, and learn from the insights of their peers.
Gender Equality and Global Health: Tools to Drive Change and Build Resilience in Fragile Environments
(1:30 PM - 3:00 PM)
Today, two billion people live in countries where development outcomes – and basic life-chances – are affected by fragility, conflict, and violence. In humanitarian crises and fragile contexts, health is affected differently, depending on gender. Due to systemic gender discrimination, women and girls face higher risks of gender-based violence and lack of access to essential health services. Through this interactive workshop, participants will explore key challenges and opportunities to advance gender equality and health in fragile contexts and humanitarian settings. Workshop participants will learn about a spectrum of gender equality approaches and share knowledge on what works to address gender gaps in humanitarian and fragile contexts to build resilience and drive change.
AGM Business Meeting and Stakeholder Engagement Learning Session
(3:30 PM - 5:00 PM)
Following the business meeting portion of this session, participants will be engaged in an interactive workshop to discuss public engagement of Canadians in issues of women and children’s health. The next two years present a key time period to make the case for continued Canadian leadership in women and children’s health. Engaging Canadians where they’re at is an important way to ensure that we “raise the tide” on Canada’s engagement with global issues. In providing tools and strategies to speak more effectively to each other, to political representatives, and to the Canadian public, this workshop will set aside time to develop common language, and to identify words and concepts that are common to the sector but not easily conveyed to the public or political representatives. Using the expertise of CanWaCH’s Public Engagement Working Group in small group settings, this session aims to break down silos, bridge disciplinary gaps, and address the biggest barriers and challenges in communicating and engaging with Canadians.
