In June 2019, Canada locked in its position today as a global leader in advancing the health and rights of women, adolescents and children around the globe with a ten-year, $1.4 billion annual investment.
The Canadian Partnership for Women and Children’s Health (CanWaCH) called it an historic day as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made the announcement at the Women Deliver 2019 Conference taking place this week in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The investment will not only ensure that Canada’s long, proud tradition as a leader in women and children’s health continues, it comes with a purposeful approach that addresses critical gaps in the health needs of women and adolescents. Specifically, the renewal of Canada’s reproductive, maternal, newborn and children’s health & nutrition funding to the year 2030, is accompanied by an additional investment in the most neglected areas of sexual and reproductive health and rights.
